Laser Etching and Impact Etching
Laser etching and impact etching are just two of the ways we create beautiful, customized monuments. While both do an excellent job, there are subtle differences between the two. Laser etching, as shown in the bird design on the top, is created using a laser that burns through a thin upper layer in the stone. It has the ability to create very detailed pictures and looks best when etched on black stone. Impact etching, as shown in the floral design on the bottom, uses a diamond “needle” to create an image that appears as close as possible to an etching done by hand. Impact etching etches deeper than laser etching and can be used on any stone of any color. One method is not necessarily better than the other, it all depends on the individual project’s needs.
